Aventurine
Aventurine is a type of quartz (silicon dioxide). It can be orange, yellow, blue, gray but most commonly green. Most aventurine has a noticable translucency and tiny crystals of other materials give a reflective effect called aventurescence.

The aventurine we use is either in the form of chips, or a delightful twisted bead that we source from the Philippines, although it is probably manufactured in China.

Aventurine has a specific gravity of between 2.65 and 2.69 (2.65 - 2.69 times the weight of water by volume) and its hardness is about 6.5 on the mohs scale which is slightly less than normal quartz crystals (7 mohs).
